How to Measure Your Ebike Battery for a Perfect Cover Fit

A battery cover that’s too loose flaps in the wind and lets rain in. One that’s too tight strains the velcro straps and is annoying to put on. Getting the right fit takes two minutes with a tape measure.

Step 1: Measure Your Battery

You need three dimensions in inches or centimeters:

Step 2: Check Your Battery Type

Integrated downtube: Mounted flush inside the frame’s downtube. This is the most common type on modern ebikes (Bosch, Shimano, Yamaha systems). These need a snug wrap-around cover with openings for the lock mechanism.

Rear rack battery: Mounted behind the seat on a cargo rack. These are typically larger (16-20 inches) and need covers that accommodate the rack mount.

External frame battery: Triangular or rectangular packs mounted on the downtube or top tube. These are common on conversion kits and older ebikes.

Step 3: Choose Universal vs Semi-Custom

Universal covers with adjustable straps fit 80% of integrated downtube batteries. If your battery is an unusual shape or has protruding lock mechanisms, semi-custom sizing from an OEM manufacturer ensures a perfect fit.

Sizing Quick Reference

Battery Type Typical Length Typical Width Cover Size
Integrated downtube 14-18 in 3-4 in Standard / Universal
Rear rack 16-20 in 4-5 in Large
External frame 12-16 in 3-5 in Standard with adjustable straps
