PVC covers are fully waterproof and easy to wipe clean. The trade-off is poor breathability — condensation forms underneath, which can rust metal grills. Use PVC only in climates with heavy rain but moderate humidity, and always vent the cover.
Trapped moisture corrodes grills from the inside. A breathable fabric lets water vapor escape while the waterproof coating keeps rain out. This is why premium covers advertise “waterproof + breathable” rather than just “waterproof.”
